Punky the Pumpkin

We have a new 5th grader…Punky the Pumpkin!

Miss Anderson’s class is preparing for Halloween…next year’s Halloween that is.  In 5th grade, we are currently learning about plants and their ecosystems.  Since Halloween is right around the corner, we have decided to watch our class pumpkin decompose and grow again.  Yeilys Padilla was excited when she saw our class pumpkin!  “It’s fun to have him because we have more Halloween decorations!”  Our pumpkin’s name is Punky, and he is going to show us what the steps for decomposition look like.  Though we aren’t giving him any extra water or new soil, we will still be able to watch Punky live and die in his ecosystem of a glass jar.  Noah Dominguez and Jaidyn Flores stated that the process of decomposition “will take a few months,” but hopefully by the end of winter break he will have almost completely disintegrated into the soil and a “new pumpkin will sprout and grow.”

“To me, Punky is like a class pet which makes me happy and bright during the day!” - Willow Bruski, 5th Grade

“Punky is a nice touch to the classroom!” - Gianna Hess, 5th Grade

“We’re going to watch Punky rot, and then we’re going to watch a new Punky Jr. grow out of Punky’s remains!” - Keegan Schultz, 5th Grade

“Punky is a happy pumpkin, sitting inside his little jar, and science will do its job!” says Liam Santiago.

Punky the Pumpkin is Miss Anderson’s new class addition!
