Welcome to District 165’s Special Education Services Department Webpage!

Our Mission

The Special Education Department is committed to providing high-quality, individualized educational services that support the unique learning needs of every student. Our mission is to ensure that students with disabilities receive the tools, support, and opportunities they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Who We Serve

All children with disabilities who are between the ages of 3 and 21, and have not yet graduated from high school are entitled to a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE).  We support students from preschool through 8th grade, who qualify for services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), along with mandates from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

Interpreting

To ensure all parents/guardians are able to meaningfully participate in their child’s evaluation and IEP process, the district wants to make known that interpretation services are available to all parents/guardians. This includes the right to have an interpreter at any meetings regarding their child, as well as all paperwork translated for the parent/guardian. To request this service, please either contact your child’s case manager (for those already receiving services), or Paola Ruiz, our district interpreter @ 815-568-7632.
