New Electric Bus

District 165 is electrified with excitement as two new electric school buses officially went into operation today!

Even more exciting, these environmentally friendly buses were acquired at zero expense to local taxpayers. Funding for the buses came through ComEd rebates and a federal grant through the U.S. Department of Energy, allowing District 165 to invest in cleaner transportation without placing an additional financial burden on our community.

In preparation for putting the buses into service, District 165 held a training session yesterday with our local first responders. The training provided an opportunity for first responders to become familiar with the new electric buses, their unique features, and important safety considerations so they are prepared in the event of an emergency. We appreciate their partnership and commitment to keeping our students, staff, and community safe.

The two buses hitting the road today are just the beginning. Another electric bus is expected to arrive in late winter, further expanding the District’s commitment to efficient, sustainable student transportation.

We are excited to see these new buses serving our students and community—and helping drive District 165 toward a cleaner future!
