Hello amazing 4th grade parents. We are beginning our fourth quarter for the year, yet it feels like the learning has only begun.
Beginning in April we will start Unit 4 in our Reading: Wonders series. Each week we will have 8 vocabulary words and 20 spelling words. In this unit, students will be able to determine cause and effect within narrative non-fiction texts as well as expository texts.
They will practice making predictions while reading fantasy stories and historical fiction novels. Students will learn to understand and compare decimals in topic 12 of our Envision math unit.
This unit will connect what they have learned about fractions and apply it to decimals. Also in this unit students will use real world examples of decimals by solving problems with money. Have any coins laying around? This might be a good time to break them out and practice math!
We return to Social Studies during the fourth quarter. Engaging lessons will focus on the geographic location of the Midwest Region as well as its agriculture and history. We will then venture into the history of Illinois dating back to the first people who arrived here. This will be an exciting journey through history.
As we continue to plant those educational seeds in our children’s minds we need to work together to water them and we can watch their brains grow. This time of year it’s important to keep our students responsible for their learning.
That includes completing homework assignments, coming to class prepared, and trying their best each and every day. Before you know it, our wonderful fourth graders will flourish into strong fifth graders.
