For the month of May, we will be focusing on the character trait of self-discipline. Students will be brainstorming ways they can show self-discipline at home, in their classroom, and in their community. We will be continuing to teach the character traits using SEL lessons like we have in the past. In language arts, students have been working on comparing and contrasting characters with in a story. The students have enjoyed reading different stories for our towers of books challenge. They have been working on explanatory writing. Please continue to read with your child at home. In math, we are beginning to look forward to the 6th grade math lessons. These are going to help them with a variety of subjects in sixth grade. As always feel free to provide your child with additional practice problems and reach out with any questions you may have. In social studies, we are wrapping up geography and moving into civics. In civics students are learning all about the constitution and the bill of rights. They will also be creating a campaign for a theme day that they will get to present to the fourth graders, and the fourth graders will vote on. As a reminder, the students have been working very hard on a couple of upcoming events that they can’t wait to share with you. The 5th grade concert is coming up on May 7th. Student led conferences are coming up on May 9th, and the buy one get one free book fair will also be happening during that week, so make sure to check it out when you’re here for conferences.
