Math: We have been really busy with customary and metric measurement as well as geometry this month. Our students have had fun creating M.C. Escher inspired tessellations and going on “shape hunts” after reading Marilyn Burns’ book The Greedy Triangle! We will continue to review and do enrichment so that we are 5th grade ready!!

Social Studies: Who knew so many famous celebrities were from the Great Prairie State?!
We do now! We are finishing up our Famous Illinoisans Projects and timelines and getting ready to research Native American tribes who first lived in the Land of Lincoln. We will be finishing up our year of Illinois history by taking a look back at such topics as the World’s Fair and the Great Chicago Fire. We are swelling with pride of how fascinating our home state is!! Language Arts: 3…2…1…Blast Off! We are currently reading Historical Fiction and Expository Non-Fiction about the Space Program. Being from Houston, Texas. - otherwise known as Space City - Mrs. Swick is very excited to share with her class tales of Johnson Space Center. We will be looking at Point of View, and Cause and Effect strategies to strengthen our reading skills so we are Super Readers for 5th Grade.
